Stand Up (the sixth studio disc from Dave and company) showcases a re-energized DMB, who, with the help of producer Mark Baston, have introduced the instrumentation of the DMB live experience into the studio. It is around this base which Matthews can weave his words in the way only he can. Dave, Carter, Stefan, Boyd and Leroy have never sounded so good — from the lead single “American Baby,” “Smooth Rider” and the beautifully delicate “Out of My Hands,” this is a band at the top of its game. Stand Up is the album that perfectly bridges the gap between commercial radio-friendly DMB (Everyday) and more obtuse experimental DMB (Before These Crowded Streets). This album deserves to stand up and take a bow.
