Dartmouth Players: Woman in Mind

When: Feb. 3-20 2010
Price: $15/$12
Alan Ayckbourn’s Woman in Mind has been described as a tragic-comedy, but the Dartmouth Players' production of it comes down heavily on the “comedy” side. For the most part, it is played as a farce, which unfortunately makes the play’s dark ending seem a little out of left field. It is the story of Susan (played by the simply terrific Leslie Milne), a frustrated and neglected house wife who creates a perfect fantasy family to compensate. It’s easy to sympathize with Susan. Her husband is distant, sexually and otherwise, her only child has cut himself off from the family, and her unbalanced and incompetent sister-in-law has moved in to “help.” Her biting sense of humor and rich imagination keep her sane, or so it seems. Remember that everything is being seen through Susan’s eyes and she is, at heart, an unreliable narrator. If you do, you’ll be less likely to be scratching your head at the end. –Kate Watson

Performances Wednesdays thruogh Saturdays at 8pm, with 2pm shows Sun Feb 7 and 14.
