Darling Arms
All the Ghosts
(Blue Skies Turn Black)
The female singer-songwriter has worn out her welcome on the national stage over the past few years, but that doesn’t stop the indies from putting out slabs of genius female folk. Darling Arms, or Christina Francis (formerly of Montreal’s One Candle Power), puts forth a disc of eloquent, sparse music that easily slides in beside Cat Power or Low. The disc features touches of violin, upright bass and drums giving the ambient atmosphere a bit of colour and life. Still, the aura of the record hovers like cigarette smoke in a dark room. Blessed with a haunting, beautiful voice and a knack for creating gorgeous late night chill music, it’s a sin this EP is so short.
