Dan For Mayor

Season Two premiere, Sunday June 5, 7:30pm, CTV

Dan for Mayor has that guy from Corner Gas---Fred Ewanuick---bumbling around trying to figure out why he ran for mayor in the first place. Poor Dan feels like nobody takes him seriously in the town of Wessex. Might have something to do with spending all of his time in the local pub exchanging unfunny dialogue with the bartender. Dan gets himself in trouble in the first episode by trying to name a new hockey rink after a retired NHL player instead of a local philanthropist. Conflict! The other characters in the show are static without any sense of circumstance. Dan’s girlfriend Claire (Mary Ashton) has a few moments of almost funny, but never quite delivers. I wanted to like this show considering the Halifax connection---executive producer Mark Farrell is from these parts---but it’s hard to enjoy a comedy when you don’t laugh, or even giggle, once.
