Cypress & Argon

Ann Ramsay of Cypress & Argon knows all about nights out in Halifax. Native to Tantallon, Ramsay says her floral crop top and black pleather panelled skirt are perfect for a night downtown. "Everyone knows a night out in Halifax could mean everything. You could be at the bar first, you could go out dancing and then you could be at a house party." Ramsay, who studied fashion design and marketing at Lethbridge College in Alberta, is inspired by a '60s aesthetic—bold, equestrian and mod (think Twiggy and Edie Sedgwick). The label name comes from opposing elements: cypress is a tree, calm and collected, while argon is a gas, crazy and unpredictable. They were also Ramsay's childhood imaginary friends. "They were twins, opposites." Currently she is developing a line of clutches for Etsy including the Hug Me clutch.
