Creating Atmosphere

9 Live Music Ideas

Live music can add allure, entertainment and elegance to your wedding day. Here are three traditional, three affordable and three unique ideas to help you add the right live music to your wedding. Traditional: 1. Walk down the aisle to Pachelbel’s Canon in D performed by a solo cellist, a flute and guitar duo or a full string quartet. 2. Add soft background music to your reception or dinner with a solo jazz guitarist or pianist. 3. Consider hiring one group to play throughout your wedding day with variations on instrumentation (a soloist for the ceremony, a duo for the reception and a full band for the dinner). Affordable: 1. Hire a solo musician instead of a group to play for your wedding. 2. Hire the musician(s) for the ceremony only. 3. Contact university music departments and ask about their best students. Unique: 1. Ask your musician(s) if they can play your favourite pop song or movie theme as your processional instead of “Here Comes The Bride.” 2. Hire a musician to compose an instrumental song just for you and your partner, to be played while you recite your vows. 3. Hire a live band for dancing instead of a DJ – think hip hop, classic rock, swing jazz, 70s soul and funk, or approach your favourite local band.
