Construction and Destruction

The Volume Wars

Published September 25, 2008.Construction and DestructionThe Volume Wars (indie) David Trenaman and Colleen Collins live in a house they rebuilt in Port Greville. Their first album---a sweet effort---was called Homebodies. The Volume Warspacks a bigger musical punch (more thumb war than War of the Roses). Trading off songs, "What The Non-Human Taught Us" has Collins' voice, keyboard and backbeat mixing like a Breeders tune. It leads perfectly into Trenaman's boot-tapping, guitar-heavier "Ring Around The Moon." Like other lo-fi bands who share songwriting/vocal duties (like The Barmitzvah Brothers), this can create an uneven sound, but there's something special going on in that seaside home. --Sue Carter Flinncategories: Local artist,Canadian artist

Survey Asks

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
