Code Pie
This Habit
(Flagless)
Computer geeks will understand the name Code Pie. What starts off as mad scientist Björk-style electronica slowly evolves, by the end of the six- minute lead-off track “Bang,” into a very current and epic alternative pop album. Put together using cello, trumpet, a “shitty” Casio keyboard, two guitars, percussion and a six string bass, this kitchen-sink recording is the latest entry into a growing list of great music from Montreal. Recorded for $700 in a high school auditorium this album sounds fantastic: orchestral, powerful, multi- layered, personal and catchy. Stylistically Code Pie seems to combine early-’90s Chicago pop with the subdued elements of Low and the organized chaos of Neutral Milk Hotel. You should own this CD.
