Shakespeare by the Sea has launched the summer with a sure-fire hit. Cinderelly is a delightfully amusing and genuinely clever reimagining of the Cinderella tale. Set in the Wild West, Cinderella becomes Elly (power-house singer Trina Rexhepi), a sweet girl who’s forced to shovel poop by her cruel but smokin’ hot step-ma (Kathryn McCormack). Elly’s step sisters are played by the scene-stealing Simon Rainville and Tom Gordon Smith, both delightfully disturbing in drag. Other audience favourites include the charming, cocky sheriff (Jacob Sampson), his adorably forgetful son (Charles Douglas), and the wacky, wonderful Donkalo (James Maclean). Add a slightly unbalance fairy bartender (Hilary Adams), three bungling banditos (Dan Bray, Scott Baker and Daniel Gervais) and a musically-marvelous live band and you’ve got a super summer theatre experience for all ages. —Kate Watson
