Christina Martin

Primed with potential, poetics and her 2002 debut Pretty Things, Christina Martin embodies soul and sass. At 28 years old she’s been many things (nanny, academic, wife), but recently has come to terms with being a songwriter. “Every time I think I am going to do something with my music, I chicken out,” she says. “I get scared, think I suck and so I quit. But I’m realizing music is the only thing that makes me happy.” Martin, being true to her Gemini nature, understands the trade-offs of professional musicianship---long hours, endless touring, unfixed income. But she can’t seem to shake it. Currently she’s finishing a nine-track album tentatively titled Two Hearts. It’s being produced and recorded by Dale Murray and Charles Austin and there’s a twin-set to arrive shortly afterwards: a collaborative work created with Daniel Ledwell and Andrew Sisk. (SWC)

Friday at FRED, 11pm, $7-$20 (all-venue pass).

Survey Asks

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
