Charmed Three

After a super productive 2012, Three Sheet plan for a new year, a new album and more touring.

Three Sheet is a big believer of Newton's laws of motion, particularly that an object in motion stays in motion. For the busy five-piece hip-hop group, each year has been bigger than the last, with 2012 bringing a wildly successful tour of Taiwan, showcases at Hullaballoo Fest, Halifax Urban Folk Festival, Evolve and the ECMAs.

The group intends to spread the love, performing this Thursday at the Courage to Give Back Awards before the live performances slow down to make time for recording.

"We have our third album currently in the making. We aren't playing as many shows as we usually do in order to make time for quality song writing," says MC Expedyte, who makes up the band with EMC, Vanessa Furlong, Kevin "Gator" Tilley and O'Quinn. "We are working on a few tours in the summer, namely out west and hopefully back to Taiwan."

On returning to Taiwan, Expedyte says: "They really have their shit together over there. The tour was extremely organized, well-promoted and every show was well-attended. The highlight show of the tour was in Kenting at a music festival called Spring Scream, which is kind of like Evolve on steroids with 10 stages and over 10,000 people that attend. Our show in particular had over 2,000 people in attendance and they were going wild. It was highest drug free experience we've ever had."

Despite the inherent radness of Taiwan, home is where the heart is for this crew.

"Our local scene is filled with lots of talent which creates natural competition between artists who want to become better and better," he says. "I think this is responsible for creating the most musically productive part of the country. The shows in this part of the country may not be the most well attended from coast to coast, but, looking at how many great artists there are per capita, I think the east coast takes the cake, we produce more good artists out here than potatoes."
