Carbon Arc screens Helen Hill's final film, goes dark

First year birthday celebration includes shorts screening then theatre chair installation

About to go dark for a month-long hiatus, the local film series Carbon Arc (The Khyber, 1588 Barrington Street) is closing its doors to help facilitate the installation of theatre-style seating. But this Thursday, July 14, it celebrates a year of showing artistic, experimental and repertory cinema with the Atlantic premiere of animator and filmmaker Helen Hill’s final film, The Florestine Collection, which she was working on when she died. (It was completed by her husband, Paul Gailiunas.) The 7pm screening will showcase the new film plus a series of Hill’s other shorts, and at 8:30 there’ll be music from Tribute Von Piggy: The Calypso Replica of The Maritimes. At 10pm there’ll be a rescreening of The Florestine Collection. 7pm $6, 10pm $3.

  • Chop it up and chase it with lime and salt
  • Cast it in bronze and put it where Cornwallis was
  • Burn it ritually for biomass
  • Plant it in every white girl's succulent garden
