Published October 16, 2003.Bubba Sparxxx Deliverance (Beatclub)Does the world need a white rapper from the deep South? Probably not, but that’s another hurdle for Bubba Sparxxx. He’s a stout disarmer, drawling charmer, throwing rhymes like seeds from a farmer. It is conceivable for hip-hop to invade the square dance, riding the harmonica on “Jimmy Mathis” or the fiddles of “Comin’ Round.” Strange to hear of rural poverty in this context, but the beats, loops and production maintain a high funk factor. Hayseed rap has landed, and it’s no joke. —Doug Taylor
