The city has given notices to owners of several buildings in the north end about “dangerous and/or unsightly” appearances, and a deadline has set for the owner to clean them up. But what if the property owners refuse?

Remarks: Boarded up windows, vinyl siding covered in tags, garbage on the sidewalk. Not houses we would like to live in, but what can we say? Humans make messes. If someone complains about a mess to the bylaw enforcement office, an officer investigates and writes the property owner a notice on what has to be done and a date it has to be done by. The notice is then put in a plastic report cover and stapled to the door. If the work isn’t done by the specified date, the city does it and charges the property owner. In severe cases, the city takes ownership of the building. Kind of like when you see someone with a boy/girlfriend they’re not treating well and you steal them away for yourself. You really shouldn’t do that, you know.
