Bring the Food Noise 

The first annual Food Noise Festival aims to showcase and celebrate the conscious food movement.

Tannessa Holt is a self-proclaimed foodaholic. Her devoted love affair took a nasty turn when she found herself overweight, unhappy and waiting to have bariatric surgery. Holt decided to make a drastic change and subsequently had to relearn her relationship with food, though the journey wasn’t easy.

“Once I wasn’t able to eat how I used to, I noticed that I had a bunch of ‘food noise’ going on in my head all the time,” says Holt. “I was constantly thinking about food and I would feel guilty for thinking and when I began to obsess.”

Now a proud purveyor of health-conscious living, Holt co-owns Food Noise, a business that seeks to bring healthy back into our lives, conversations and homes. Holt hopes to be a point of contact for people and to bring awareness to the wholesome food movement, help eliminate unhealthy habits and shift our thinking back into wellness.

“That’s why my business partner Dana Landry and I decided to do this festival,” she says. “It will bring local food producers who concentrate on conscious living in front of the communities they serve all in one place.” Their first Food Noise Festival runs this weekend, featuring local food vendors, workshops, demonstrations and speakers all aimed at educating our community on the importance of healthy, sustainable and local food movement.

“It’s important for Haligonians to know that in supporting our conscious famers and providers of local products, we’re also helping our struggling economy,” Holt says. “You will see the benefits of what your food choices do to your environment, your economy and yourself.” Though the festival is mainly food-focused, there will also be eco-friendly clothing, non-toxic cookware and plants for sale, henna tattoos and yoga. Holt says it’ll be a very family-friendly and interactive environment and expects the event will help people get better engaged with their local food community.

“There’s so much backlash when you try to push something on people, but we need to put this in the forefront of peoples minds,” she says. “By supporting our local food movement, we’re giving people the platform to live healthy, sustainable and conscious lives and we’re proud of that.”
