Actually Ryan, three of the people quoted here are scientists, including a DFO scientist. Additionally, neither Grey Seal Conservation Society, IFAW nor HSI/Canada are "animal rights" groups. Just because you do not agree with the article written by the journalist doesn't mean it is biased or unbalanced.
As for calling this article an "op ed" written by someone who is "not Journalist" you might be interested to know that the author Linda Pannozzo, BSc, BEd, BJ has a background in environmental science, teaching and journalism, and is an award-winning journalist.
I applaud Linda Pannozzo for this well-researched and thought-provoking article. The decision of the Senate Committee to approve a grey seal cull is politically-motivated with no basis in science. The proposal for a bounty is further proof this is nothing more than a make-work project for sealers disgruntled with collapsed world markets for seal products and clamouring for the federal government to do something.
