Re: “Michelle Coffin is reclaiming her story

I found this a well written thoughtful, moving article. I didn't think it was sensationalized. I believe Ms. Coffin was portrayed as a very strong and capable person in spite of the references to her size - interesting that several readers found that portrayed her as weak and helpless. I believe it took courage for her to speak out and I'm glad she did. I was also glad it was not published just before the election - it wouldn't have given time for a response which would have seemed like cheap politics and taken away from the central story and the impact I hope it will have. Ms. Coffin made it clear she was glad Kylie found work - it was his high profile position that was the problem. Giving people a 2nd chance is important - but acting as if it didn't matter goes too far. Acting as if she was invisible also goes too far. Thanks to the Coast, to Ms. Rahr and to Ms. Coffin. Abuse exists at all levels of society. We must all work to end it or at least to reduce it. This article is one step along the way.

Re: “It's time for some climate change truths

This is a compelling commentary. I especially like the lines: "The value of a livable climate is far greater than the cost of achieving it." and "It's for our children.... Now it’s our turn. We can give our children something even more precious: A stable, nurturing climate." That's what motivates me on this issue. Canada must get its act together on climate change. And NS needs to build on its successes to date with a phased in carbon price coordinated with national pricing. Brian

Re: “A new year and a new beginning

It's good to hear that the City has adopted or may adopt the Statement of Reconciliation. I hope there are many opportunities for engagement between our communities in the coming year Pamela. The Friendship Centre is an important part of the broader Halifax community and will hopefully play a big part in the conversation and actions ahead.

Re: “How I helped the Cuban Five escape from a Cold War prison

An extraordinary story! Congratulations to you and Jeannie on playing a role in such a major welcome change in US-Cuba relations as well as in freeing the 5. Your book was a fascinating read and this latest chapter must more than have made all the sleuthing pay off.

Re: “Nauss' last ride

Great story about a Halifax institution. I took the advice of the author and dropped by to say thanks. I've bought 3 bikes since I moved to Halifax in 1968 , all from the Nauss', including the last one from Dave a couple of years ago, a great bike - Opus Zermatt. Good to hear from Dave about the work he's done on cycles for people with disabilities - the only kind of cycle work he'll keep on doing I gather. And thoughts of family life. All the best to him after so many years of good service to the community! All the best to his assistant too (whose name has slipped my mind - sorry!).
