Cuteness jumps off the screen in David Lickley’s 40-minute 3D documentary, Born to Be Wild, narrated by Morgan Freeman. Two women are dedicated to raising orphaned animals in large communities---Daphne Sheldrick rescues baby elephants in Kenya; Biruté Galdikas rescues baby orangutans in Indonesia. Elephant poaching and the destruction of rainforests, the reasons these animals are orphans in the first place, are overshadowed by scenes of little elephants trotting around and fuzzy orangutans clumsily knocking things over. We learn more about elephants and orangutans than we do about the women responsible for these elaborate rescue missions or the teams of people who help them, leaving plenty of unanswered questions. For the extra money you pay for IMAX, Lickley could’ve added another 40 minutes of screen time. –Molly Segal
Director: David Lickley
Writer: Drew Fellman
Cast: Morgan Freeman, Birute Galdikas and Daphne Sheldrick
