Blueberry capital blues

To the editor,

Oxford, sweet Oxford. I have been plotting my escape for some time. Since 2001. I regularly depart to Halifax for relief (desperately hoping to move there, or at least closer, as my job improves). And like the Hunsleys who wrote a letter in this week's Coast ("Oxford defined," Dec 15), I don't say I'm from Oxford, claiming instead to come from the booming metropolis of Amherst. It's technically correct, since I'm stuck between them. Having kids, it's doubly important to me to show them that there's more to the world. Just so they don't grow up with the...er...limited mindset which Oxford recently showcased. And it's not restricted to Oxford; I have encountered it in Amherst as well. On the rare occasions when I meet someone my own age who is fun, smart and interesting, they are inevitably headed out of town —frequently to Halifax. So am I. This morning I was sitting at the Med on Barrington, enjoying coffee, breakfast and The Coast. But tonight—oh Lord, I'm stuck in Oxford again.
