Black Blizzard

Yoshihiro Tatsumi (Drawn & Quarterly)

Black Blizzard was published in Japan in 1956, leaving its mark on the emerging Japanese comic book industry with its longer narrative and adult-oriented story. The manga is like a Hitchcock film on paper: two convicts handcuffed together try to evade police in the middle of a snowstorm. The dated artwork looks a little too cartoony at times, but the innovative layouts successfully create suspense. Drawn & Quarterly took a lot of obvious care with the book’s English release, tagging comic book luminary Adrian Tomine with editing and lettering chores and including a short interview with the author.

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
