Black Blizzard

Yoshihiro Tatsumi (Drawn & Quarterly)

Japanese comic master Tatsumi’s works previously published by D&Q (The Push Man and Other Stories, Abandon the Old in Tokyo) are simple, straightforward depictions of the lives of ordinary Japanese citizens in the mid-twentieth century. Black Blizzard was Tatsumi’s breakthrough work, published in 1956 when he was 21, here translated into English for the first time. A dark tale of two convicts escaping a train crash, the story unfolds to reveal a young man’s romance with a circus performer that simultaneously gives meaning to his life and causes its collapse. Black Blizzard is a fast-paced thriller and exciting insight into the early work of a virtuoso.
