Bill Callahan

Apocalypse (Drag City)

billcallahan-review.jpg
Always the same, always different. Whether as Smog or under his birth name, Bill Callahan has been churning out quality music for over two decades. An artist of such integrity and so many dimensions, everyone seems to have a different favourite record. On Apocalypse, Callahan continues to dig deeper into his own peculiar Americana, sounding as relaxed as ever. His lyrics are filled with small moments of dry humour, tossed-off revelations, onomatopoeia; he even whistles along with the abounding flutes. It’s the sound of one of America’s greatest living songwriters being exactly where he should be, 20 years on.

Survey Asks

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
