Bikram Yoga Halifax opens

November 16 brings a new yoga option downtown

Kristin Johnston's family owns and runs three Bikram Yoga studios in Montreal. She's exporting the family business to Halifax to operate her own studio, opening Bikram Yoga Halifax on Wednesday, November 16 at 1567 Grafton Street in the space that once was Stage 9 and Coconut Grove. "You wouldn't recognize it," says Johnston, who has renovated the space to better suit the needs of a yoga studio that adds heat to the practise, as Bikram does. In the summer she envisions yoga on that great deck above Pizza Corner, along with a juice bar and live music.

With the opening comes tons of deals, including free yoga for the first two weeks, buy a membership within the free week and get 20 percent off, refer a friend and get the equal membership for 50 percent off (cannot be combined with any other offer and applies only to one month unlimited and more), intro month for $25, and more.

Here's the class schedule: Monday: 9am, 6:30pm, 8:30pm. Tuesday:  12pm, 4:30pm, 6:30pm. Wednesday: 9am, 6:30pm, 8:30pm. Thursday:  4:30pm, 6:30pm. Friday: 12pm, 6:30pm (karma class, donation only). Saturday: 10am, 3pm. Sunday: 12pm, 5pm.

Johnston is thrilled to be launching her business in her adoptive city. "People have been unbelievably supportive here," she says. For more information, check
