Global Symphonic
Vancouverite quintet Better Friends than Lovers play with Toronto’s Germans and The Got to Get Got on Saturday night at the Halifax Pop Explosion, which should be an energetic live show. On record, however, Great Loves sounds too much like other pop bands from the west coast---mainly Immaculate Machine. The vocal tradeoffs between keyboardist Chloe Gammon and bassist Jeremy Pelland get tired quickly, alternating between flat and forced. Like an electric version of The Doers but with less humour and skill, Better Friends than Lovers play fast and change time often. At a live show, the songs might just work.
