Best Online Presence

Tanya Davis

It started with a poem, an instructional of sorts, “How To Be Alone.” Davis partnered with filmmaker and animator Andrea Dorfman to set her words and music to video, launching it on YouTube. Then it exploded. Roger Ebert tweeted about it, Russell Smith whined in the Globe and Mail about its supposed “retrograde” and “anti-feminist” tropes, which stirred up the shit back here amongst Davis’s fans but also attracted more attention to the video. Now with 2,787,996 views (at the time of this writing) it’s a genuine sensation. Meanwhile, Davis gracefully took the sudden attention in stride, released her third record, Clocks And Hearts Keep Going, and toured the hell out of it, while she and Dorfman plan more videos, coming to a browser near you. ---CK
