Mayor Rachel Bailey isn’t exactly shocked to hear people love staycationing in her town. All the time she has people telling her about the special feeling they have visiting Halifax’s south shore neighbour. “They feel immediately connected to the community,” she says. “A lot of it is intangible, perhaps, but there is also a lot to see and do in a very compact community here in Lunenburg.” And where does the mayor of our Best Staycation Spot like to vacation herself? Bailey says she’s made it a goal to explore more of the province. “We sometimes take the notion that we have to go away to experience something new and exciting, and there’s just so much to do in Nova Scotia.”
