Renée Lavallée and Doug Townsend’s minds are blown. “We try to eat out on a regular basis—we know the amazing restaurants, the Bar Kismets, the EDNAs,” says Lavallée via speakerphone. She lovingly calls The Canteen “just a little restaurant in Dartmouth” after listing her faves, but is anything but modest when it comes to celebrating her team, which she and Townsend (her husband and co-owner) make sure to credit for every accolade. “We may be in the kitchen and the dining room but it’s our staff. We treat each other with respect and look out for one another, we are just one giant family. It’s because of them we got this award, not because of us. It’s all of us working together.”
