Jimmy Donnelly, manager and co-owner of Taz, has a simple answer to the record store’s success: “My standard answer is I give all credit to my lovely staff, who I am so proud of.” At that, a collective groan from said staff is audible on the line. “In all seriousness, we’re always humbled by your voters thinking we’re the best because there’s some great record stores around.” What else keeps Taz spinning in the streaming age? “Some of it is our massive selection,” Donnelly adds, mentioning the store pays attention to local concerts, carrying vinyl of recent performers ‘round town in the shop. “We’re all just so passionate about physical media.”
