Chives edges out Cafe Vienna for your top spot to eat alone. Chef and partner Darren Lewis attributes the willingness of people to eat at Chives solo to the atmosphere. “It’s not intimidating, the server will chat if you like, or offer you a paper or magazine,” he says, adding, “or not chat if you don’t like.” Lewis mentions the little corners throughout the dining room that “you can make people feel at home in, without them feeling like they’re in a stark Toronto restaurant where everyone is staring.”
