Patio means a lot of different things in this town, and Stillwell’s Spring Garden beer garden redefines most of them. “I kind of like that it’s this forgotten lot and we’re allowing it to be what it is,” says Stillwell co-owner Laura MacDonald. “It’s such a great spot—you’re right in the middle of everything, it’s sort of the meeting of all the Halifax neighbourhoods.” With another season of beers and dogs and barbecue and ice cream in the books, she says 2017 was all about settling in and putting down roots Spring Garden. “This is the first year we ran the beer garden without having to set it up from the ground up. It was an occasion to more enjoy it,” she says. “And we felt more of the community this year.” The countdown to next summer starts…now?
