“I’m so happy,” Joel Plaskett says of his three gold Best of wins this year. Although he does a lot of work on his own, the long-time local favourite is reluctant to take all the credit. “I’m really mindful of the fact that my band The Emergency has been a huge part of my records—a bunch of them—but also my ability to go out and deliver the songs live in a rock ’n’ roll context.” Maybe your favourite male solo artist really is a team player: Not only have bandmates Dave Marsh and Chris Pennell played a lot with him over the years, but currently Plaskett is working on a record with his father.
