Read all about Halifax’s “secret tunnels” at tbphfx.blogspot.ca, but here’s the thing: all older cities have myths of secret underground tunnels. That’s because there are old and forgotten utility tunnels, changes in the lay of the land covering up old basements, like that. And indeed, it just might be possible that there was actually an escape tunnel from the Citadel, but no way in hell could even 21st century technology dig a tunnel through the granite beneath the harbour, all the way to Georges Island. Use that one on the tourists, sure, but don’t believe it yourself for a moment.
