That’s what manager Mike Hamm attributes to Bookmark’s repeat wins as Halifax’s Best Independent Book Store. “We’re a small store, but we’re able to jam so many interesting books into such a small space,” he says. A ledger of steady regulars also means Bookmark is adept with prognosticating items for their curated collection. “We have the things in the media, that you’d expect us to sell, but also really esoteric stuff that we can usually match up to one person,” says Hamm. “We know the things they’ll like.”
