Entire big box bookstore chains are closing down in the States, and every second person on the bus is reading Fifty Shades of Grey on a Kindle, thinking they’re fooling us, and yet little Bookmark remains strong and steady, a throwback to an earlier age of brick and mortar indie bookstores, selling actual books. The secret? An interesting stock, a knowledgeable staff and a devoted clientele. And a shoutout too to Woozles on the kiddie book front, and the impossibly gigantic stock of used books at JWD. We’re thinking none of this would work without our literate culture, so we’ll pat ourselves on the back, too.
