Best City Councillor

Dawn Sloane

The outspoken councillor (district 12) found herself in some pretty hot water earlier this year over her plans to move into a subsidized townhouse she acquired through a federal-provincial housing program. Ignoring her critics, Sloane moved into her new house in July. Three months later voters showed her with overwhelming support—voting her in for another term on council. “My appeal has to be that I’m kind of down to earth,” says Sloane, who was voted best councillor last year too.

1st runner-up: Sue Uteck, district 13

2nd runner-up: Sheila Fougere, district 14
