Best Chinese Restaurant

The Great Wall Restaurant

Great Wall has owned the Best Chinese and Best Dim Sum categories for more than 10 years, so we thought it was time to give them at least one. And so, from here on, please note that Great Wall, serving quality Cantonese and Sze-Chuan cooking to the people of Halifax since 1984, has been elevated to the pantheon on our Best of Food Hall of Fame for their superlative Dim Sum, served on Sundays from 11:30am-3pm. If you haven’t experienced the wonder of it, that’s when you need to get into the place, and get in early: It’s prepared fresh and in specific quantities, so when they run out, that’s it for the day. “It’s the diligence in the kitchen” that accounts for the restaurant’s continuing dominance of the Best Chinese Food category, according to one of the staff, who explains that owners Ling and Patrick Wong are perfectionists with what makes it to customers. “Ling is the kitchen boss,” says the staffer. “Do you know how many egg rolls I’ve got to eat because she’s decided they shouldn’t make it to the table?”
