All hail Ace Burger. And hail Halifax did, giving Ace Best Burger for the second year in a row. Co-owner George Christakos attributes Ace’s juicy success to what he calls “guilt-free fast food”—but no one’s counting calories here. It’s guilt-free because the ingredients are locally sourced. “We’re part of the chain of Nova Scotia agriculture and I think that people support us on the moral aspect,” says Christakos, and because it’s a “damn tasty burger.” There were a lot of burgers battling the title for Best Burger this year, he says, but consumers care about more than just the burger these days. They want to know where the meat comes from, and when it comes to Ace, they aren’t bluffing.
