Silver Winner Neon Dreams

Bronze Winner Roxy and The Underground

Two thousand seventeen marks 20 years for The Mellotones, half that with the current lineup. “It’s tough with eight people having equal say,” says bassist Mike Farrington, “but the end result is pretty good.” The band’s extensive repertoire goes deep into soul, funk and pop classics; Farrington says a “medley of Peter Gabriel’s ‘Sledgehammer’ and Daft Punk’s ‘Get Lucky’ goes over well everywhere,” which includes all over the country, province and a bulletproof weekly residency that’s moved all around town and settled at Bearly’s on Thursdays. (The big 20th birthday party is December 23 at The Marquee.) “Thank you to everybody who comes out all the time,” says Farrington, “and for club owners that book live acts, cause without them we wouldn’t have a place to play.”
