Gold Winner Ecology Action Centre
Silver Winner Halifax Refugee Clinic
Bronze Winner Nova Scotia Rainbow Action Project
Seven time gold winner Ecology Action Centre is the little org that could, and can. Founded as a class project for the Living Ecology course at Dalhousie University in 1971, the organization almost immediately found its activist legs by fighting an absurd proposal to place ten nuclear power reactors on the south shore. EAC now weighs in on and influences most everything related to the environment in Nova Scotia and Halifax, from coastal and energy issues, to urban development and transportation, to energy and climate change. There’s too many EAC projects to list, but let’s randomly plug the new Community Supported Fisheries project.
