Be My Baby

How much would you pay to see a theatre production that’s charming, funny, and downright heartwarming? A production that has a marvelous, ingenious set, nimble- fingered dressers who pull off break-neck costume changes and actors who are so natural that they make even the most contrived situation seem plausible. Well, I bet it’s a darn sight more than the $15 that Dartmouth Players is charging for their superb production of Be My Baby. The play is not perfect---it seems dated at times and the cavalier attitude of some of its characters towards adoption is mildly offensive---but it is a comedy with heart that will leave you glowing. And while all the actors do a superb job and manage the British accents admirably, Phil Reid as a crotchety Scotsman with a heart of gold deserves special recognition. Watching Reid interact with the “baby” (who is merely a doll) will cause your heart to swell and bring a tear to your eye. Bravo, Dartmouth Players. –Kate Watson
