There is no shame in retail OP, just some sort of stigma I suppose. If you're happy with what you do then don't have any shame about it, and to quote the ole cliche : you're better off without her.

Sorry, I should add that I don't by any means think the destruction of any ecosystem is a good thing, or that all of them are capable of bouncing back in a reasonable amount of time. I would say, though, that considering the big picture, nothing short of Darth Vader ordering the Deathstar to blow up Earth will eradicate life completely. At the last conference I was at, dealing with the status of certain fish populations, one of the speakers ended by pointing out that Earth will just be engulfed by the Sun someday anyway, I got a kick out of that.
Having working in ecology and marine conservation for sometime I started to become sick of it. I think the major turning point for me came while working on the supposed Lionfish 'Apocolypse' in the Atlantic. If you're not familiar with the situation, it basically entails an invasive species that was introduced to the Atlantic roughly 15 years ago that has spread like crazy. Being a voracious predator it was deemed an enemy of the marine community. So after years of government funding, studies, chaos, panicking, and my personal favorite, mass killings of these fish, the oddest thing happened : the fucking ecosystem adapted and the population began to level off. People need to stop perceiving the earth as some fragile helpless entity that is never supposed to change.
