Re: “The Seaport Market and the problem of “authentic Maritime culture”

Is Cheelin moving - and the place that makes the dumplings on the corner? I didn't hear that. Or are they moving all food vendors without a permanent place - does that include the lobster shack and Little Red Kitschen? If it's just the ethnic vendors, then whoa - yeah. We need to be concerned. If it's not - well then... I'm concerned we've moved this issue from the facts - little vendors are getting pushed into a less viable space - into something wildly hysterical.

I want Mary's to be downstairs. I love Mary's. And I like taking a platefull of her glorious oxtails and wandering around at the vendors - downstairs. I want all the vendors dispersed around. If I wanted to go to a food court, I wouldn't go to the market. I've been going to Alderney Market more and more as these changes take place. It's much friendlier and embraces the full market flavour.

Re: “Captain America: The First Avenger worthy of the stars

Agreed. I went to this with low expectations, but I left very happy. The movie tells a good story (though in the middle it gets a little muddled and rushed after the big escape/rescue) and doesn't linger on nationalistic crap. Really amazed me because of how this is usually done with the waving flag and stars and stripes... if anything, the storytellers show how Captain America's use as a propaganda tool is helpful to the cause at home, but really superficial when it comes down to reality. Even the usual kind anti-German feel of a Nazi enemy are toned down (I don't think I heard one word of German) and instead Hydra as a big badass and separate enemy come out.
I was happily surprised with how this was done, and now look forward to the Avengers.

Re: “Booze A-OK with city

Aside from the revenue they generate, beer tents provide a more secure and monitored space for people to have a drink vs. bringing their own (which people will do of course, but not all of them). People will drink at events - it's an accepted and expected part of our culture.

Re: “Efendy Turkish & Mediterranean Grill

We shared an amazing appetizer (mezza plate) that would be sufficient on its own for a nice light lunch - at least 7 kinds of dip and hot pita.
For my main, I had the mousakka, which was hot in its own little clay pot, and so tender and delicious. My friend had the lamb chops, and we shared back and forth. I loved the mousakka, but I know I'll get the lamb next time. It was just... wow!
Prompt, efficient service - unobtrusive yet helpful. A lovely patio too.
