Another Home Invasion

With its poetic script, a tour-de-force performance by Nicola Lipman and a ripped-from-the-headlines story that should concern everyone, Another Home Invasion makes for riveting theatre. Lipman plays Jean, a feisty, opinionated senior who is desperately searching for a living situation that will keep her together with her husband who is deep in the throes of dementia. In a wide-ranging stream-of- consciousness monologue, Jean takes the audience through a pivotal week in her life. It is a week that touches on both the minutia of day-to-day living and the huge challenges of getting old and of being a caregiver. And while this might sound depressing, playwright Joan MacLeod has infused the script with gentle humour and deep insights. A simple, evocative set by Scott Reid and elegantly subtle light design by David Fraser add much to the appeal of this show. –Kate Watson
