    July 23-Aug. 3
Anna Leonowens Gallery Granville Square, 1891 Granville Street, Halifax Downtown

Patrick Cruz, a visiting artist, explores the metaphor-ripe lobster, tracing its history from fish bait to haute cuisine. "Supposedly, the stoic crustacean cannot process pain due to the absence of cerebral cortex. In addition to this strange biological phenomenon, its brain is located in its throat, nervous system in its abdomen, teeth in its stomach and kidneys in its head. It listens with its legs and tastes with its toes," Cruz's artist's statement adds. 902-494-8223

Flagging Velvet artist talk and discussion

Anna Leonowens Gallery Granville Square, 1891 Granville Street, Halifax Downtown

    ,
In Flagging Velvet, artists Maddie Alexander, Dana Buzzee and Wren Morris subvert the heteronormative gaze with documentation of queer sex and desire that's empowered and celebratory. Here, two of the three artists share a frank, open discussion on queer sexuality and what desire means to them—as well as exploring the works on display in the gallery. During the talk, Morris will be doing a live Shibari (or Kinbaku) rope tie on Alexander, and a Q&A caps it all off. 902-494-8223
