Anchor swoon

8:21am: Anchor love-in. yeah! This is my dream crush host-on-a-desert-island tag-team (So what? I have a handsome old dude swooning thing going on, thank you). Thank god Peter Mansbridge doesn't look as sweaty as yesterday. Ron MacLean's dark blue suit looks quite dapper as usual, with a tasteful blue striped tie.

8:38am: still more breaks, no ceremony. When does this get started? NBC is debating the super laser Speedo. But you still need to know how to swim, right?

8:40am: According to the Baltic Times, "this years Olympic Games in Beijing had a surprising change of menu when Estonian cheese was added to the list." I was in Estonia last summer and I can attest to that mighty fine dairy product, especially when stuffed into a large pancake.

8:43: Remember when Muhammed Ali lit the Olympic torch in 1996? I bawled.

8:55: The Bird's Nest is on fire. IOC President Jacques Rogge looks like he's shitting his pants in fear of what's coming next.

8:59: Drum on 'roids. Seriously though, it's visually amazing. 29 fireworks for 29 Olympics all over the city. There are too many symbolic things happening, thanks Ron, that my brain can't handle the whole list.

9:02: 20 glow-in-the-dark fairies and twinkling Olympic rings. All sparkly--the audience was given flashlights too. I think this would be much more effective watching at night accompanied by certain substances. ahem.

9:08: short film on paper-making. Watch this instead:

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
