Ama-zine race

The Roberts Street Social Centre holds their sixth annual 24-Hour Zine Challenge. Can you handle the heat?

Make a zine cake, or a zine about cakes.
  • Make a zine cake, or a zine about cakes.

A deadline can be a scary thing, but sometimes it's what it takes to get shit done. So you...yeah you, this is your opportunity to finally make that zine you've been dreaming about all summer. Celebrating six years of the Anchor Archive Zine Library is the sixth annual 24-Hour Zine Challenge, when the Roberts Street Social Centre opens its doors from 5pm Saturday to 5pm on Sunday, provides supplies, moral support and assigns the task of finishing a zine in one weekend. Non-zinesters, you're welcome, too. The RSSC has a whole lineup of events that accompany the Challenge like a Friday night screening of Don't Need You: The Herstory of Riot Grrrl (7pm), a barbecue (Saturday at 7pm), a zine workshop for kiddies (Sunday, 2pm), screen printing demos and a backyard show to close off the weekend. Whether you're a zine expert or not, this is a great excuse to drop by the corner of Roberts and James.

Should council use the yet-to-be-finalized Centre Plan when debating new developments?

  • No, it doesn’t exist yet and is still likely to change
  • Yes, thousands of hours of work and consultation have gone into what’s already assembled
  • Maybe, it really depends on what’s being proposed by the developer
  • I don’t know what the Centre Plan is and do not wish to participate in this poll
