Alan Benjamin

Alan Benjamin
South shore trio Alan Benjamin sounds like it’s struggling to find an identity. Is it an indie band with a penchant for big-rock vocal posing? Or closet Puddle of Mudd fans with limited recording devices that lead to a lo-fi aesthetic? If you read the lyrics (references to decay, parasites and isolation) you’d think they were raised on Nine Inch Nails. Maybe the right producer could mash it all together, but this debut, while exceedingly imaginative in places, needs more than a little refinement.

What should be done with the dead agave plant?

  • Chop it up and chase it with lime and salt
  • Cast it in bronze and put it where Cornwallis was
  • Burn it ritually for biomass
  • Plant it in every white girl's succulent garden
