Try The Halifax Examiner. Daily news & opinions, investigative pieces, etc, all by paid journalists and no verbatim press releases allowed. Or check out Local XPress, with daily news / sports / entertainment news from the CH's striking writers. The Coast's Jacob Boon and The Examiner's Tim Bousquet attend municipal council when it sits and their respective Twitter feeds are a great way to keep up with municipal issues. The student papers from Kings and NSCC journalism programs have done good things. FRANK certainly serves a purpose but there are other alternatives for news. They're just not sitting in newspaper boxes on every corner.
