POV: We have an issue when we Blacks enter any arena with saying "historic" and "first," though it happens to me as a writer -- getting relegated to the Black seat and feeling like I emerged from a non-progressive entity. I wish one day to change "makes history" to "makes progress." When you travel the country, the success of integration hits you like a ton of bricks. The mosaic is so apparent and beautiful. In 2016, "making history" casts a dim light over Halifax (founded 1749) as a place still existing in the Middle Ages. Because Smith succeeded in wining the vote within his own group, not among the broader electorate, I do not consider this historic, since we have always had leaders within our communities. When the broader community includes, encourages, supports, respects and elects people of color, that, my Haligonians, will be loving and forward thinking and without need to say ... "historic". Cheers to a brighter future, a broader community and congratulations to Mr. Smith.
Oh dear! All this hate, name calling and sexual slurs forgets entirely the truth of this situation - that Frankie is not a meteorologist. That Cindy was not hating on Frankie, merely saying we should be aware of that point when listening to his broadcasts. The Internet is literally eating our brains.
Considering the number of people of color who actually participate in the ceremony and then the number of women participating who wear the niqab, it's a very, very tiny number. That's the thing, it doesn't even warrant being a national issue. I didn't see one niqab at the tiny ceremony here and yet people are outraged. One positive is that people have a new word added to their vocabulary and one negative is, well people can hang their racist hat on an immigrant's head and be praised by the highest man in the land. Welcome to multicultural Canada!
I can't understand why we can't say anything negative about Bruce Jenner in countries where veterans won us freedom of speech. This who we must love crap is very selective.
Not long ago, every school day, event and meeting started with a prayer. If praying was intended to produce a watchful eye and righteous guidance over these affairs, I fail to see the benefits for these people who pray have committed many sins right after praying. It begs to ask, "Who were they praying to?" LOL
