I understand the rationale for wanting to keep chickens as a source of local food that you can control as opposed to buying eggs from unknown industrial farms, etc. and would not dispute this at all. But can't we all be reasonable enough to admit that there are parts of the city where it is not appropriate to keep chickens regardless of whether you have the right to do so? I think we should still maintain respect for our neighbours and not keep chickens in the densely populated areas of the city.
I don't think your gouging comment is fair. I have two kids in daycare at the moment, and I pay about $1,500/month to have them in there. I don't like paying it, but I need them to be in daycare and so I work a lot of extra hours to pay for it. The daycare providers work really hard and are not living lives of luxury off the $35/day they charge per kid. They are helping to prepare my kids for school and give me piece of mind that my kids are in good hands while my wife and I work. They give them good snacks and a good lunch every day, and do arts and crafts with them, etc. It is worth every penny, and I sacrifice a lot to pay that monthly bill, but I'm not a fucking hero, I just do what it takes to provide for my kids because I decided to have them and nobody else is responsible for that.
Chris, why the "wonks" shot at the end of the article? I've heard conservation groups like the EAC praising the maps as a good way to get informed and understand the new plans.
